Banyoles

Banyoles is a town located in the Pla de l’Estany region, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. It is primarily known for its lake, Lake Banyoles, one of the largest natural lakes on the Iberian Peninsula. 

Lake Banyoles is the town’s main natural attraction. It is a freshwater lake of karstic origin covering an area of 107 hectares. This lake is famous for its scenic beauty and as a landmark for sports. It is an ideal place for hiking, cycling, and especially rowing, as it is where the headquarters of the Banyoles Swimming Club are located, one of the most renowned rowing clubs in Spain. In addition to being a natural area of interest, the lake also has scientific and archaeological significance, as paleolithic and neolithic remains have been found there, and it is home to various species of fauna and flora. 

In summary, Banyoles is a charming town with a rich history and exceptional natural surroundings, primarily highlighted by Lake Banyoles, a landmark that attracts visitors for its beauty and variety of activities.

Besalú

We went to visit Besalú. Besalú is a medieval village with a picturesque charm. With its cobblestone streets and the famous Romanesque bridge that crosses the Fluvià River, Besalú is an architectural gem that transports you to bygone times. In addition to its historical heritage, the village offers a welcoming atmosphere and delicious local cuisine.

Barcelona

Barcelona is a vibrant city on Spain’s northeastern coast, known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture. It’s home to famous landmarks such as Antoni Gaudí’s La Sagrada Familia (we visited this too) and Park Güell, as well as the lively streets of the Gothic Quarter. The city offers beautiful beaches along the Mediterranean Sea, world-class Catalan cuisine and a vibrant nightlife.
